Terrorists From Gaza Fire At Least 28 Mortars into Israel; One Lands Next to Kindergarten

In the heaviest shelling of Israel from Gaza since the 2014 war with Hamas, terrorists fired more than 28 mortars into Israel, with one landing next to a kindergarten, before the school day started, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

The Times described the bombardment as the "the heaviest to be fired out of the Palestinian coastal territory since the 50-day war in the summer of 2014."

The IDF said that it struck 35 terrorist sites inside Gaza in response to the terrorist fire.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the 9th Galilee Conference, "The IDF will respond with great force to these attacks. Israel will exact a heavy price from anyone who tries to attack it, and we view Hamas as responsible for preventing such attacks against us."

Later Palestinian sources said that terrorist had fired over 100 rockets and mortars into Israel. One of the rockets hit and damaged power lines providing electricity to Gaza.

The rockets and mortars are the latest escalation of violence by Hamas following weeks of Hamas-led violent riots at the Gaza-Israel border.

Of the 112 Gazans reported killed as the IDF attempted to keep infiltrators from breaching the border fence, 93 or 83% have been identified as belonging to or being affiliated with terror groups in Gaza, according to findings of the Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center (ITIC).

Iranian FM Zarif Chants “Death to America! Death to Britain!…”Death to Israel!”

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif was seen chanting "Death to America" in a video that surfaced last week, Ynet reported Saturday.

The video captured Zarif, who was the lead Iranian negotiator for the 2015 nuclear deal, smiling and chanting along with the crowd, "Death to America", "Death to Britain" and "Death to Israel."

The crowd had assembled to hear a speech given by Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran, and started the chants after the speech.

Zarif is widely characterized as a "moderate."

It has been conventional wisdom that those Iranians described as moderates did not engage in such rhetoric. FRANCE 24 Tehran correspondent Reza Sayah, referring to Zarif, said earlier this month that "the moderates, of course, were not chanting ‘death to America’."

Wendy Sherman, the lead United States negotiator for the nuclear deal, did not characterize any member of the government in that fashion. Rather, she observed “There are hardliners in Iran, and then there are hard-hardliners in Iran.” She added that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, an ally of Zarif, "is not a moderate, he is a hardliner.”

Promoter: Shakira “Hopes” to Perform in Israel, Never had Plans for Show in July

On Monday, the United States-based entertainment company, Live Nation, confirmed that Shakira had never scheduled a performance in Israel this July, but that the company and pop icon "hope" that she will do a show in Israel "in the future," The Jerusalem Post reported.

After several media reports wrongly indicated that Shakira was due to perform in Tel Aviv later this year, Live Nation posted on Twitter, "The media has incorrectly reported that Shakira will be performing in Tel Aviv this summer.” The entertainment company clarified that they “hope to bring a show to her fans in Israel in the future."

Earlier in May, news outlets mistakenly reported that the Colombian pop star would perform in Tel Aviv’s Yarkon Park in July.

On Tuesday, supporters of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign celebrated the announcement that Shakira was not going to perform in Israel, failing to acknowledge that tickets never went on sale.

Although Shakira has never performed in Israel, she has been to Israel, visiting the Western Wall and meeting with then-president Shimon Peres in 2011.

This is not the first time that the BDS campaign has falsely claimed a victory against Israel.

In 2010, the American rock band, The Pixies, cancelled a show in Israel. Many Israel critics took advantage of this and said the cancellation was an indication of The Pixies boycotting Israel, though The Pixies never mentioned boycotting or any ideological justification. The Pixies performed in Israel four years later.

Israeli Company Revolutionizes Poultry Farming from Angola to Vietnam

The classic chicken-or-egg conundrum does not keep poultry farm designers from the Israeli firm Agrotop awake at night.

They’re too busy solving other challenges, like how to build a chicken house on the steep Himalayan slopes of Nepal. Or how to construct a 60,000-layer egg house in the Canary Islands on a narrow footprint (half the levels were built underground with a sophisticated ventilation system).

Since its founding in 1989, Agrotop has been planning, engineering and constructing poultry and livestock projects in 50 countries –plus feed mills, slaughterhouses and packing centers –suitable for temperatures ranging from -40 to +50 degrees Celsius.

The business of livestock construction projects is big and varied, so Agrotop has worked at distinguishing itself from other players and also working cooperatively with other players, says engineer Yaron Zafrani, Agrotop’s vice president for sales.

“There are many competitors that supply specific technology worldwide, but we are one of a few companies that can provide full integrated solutions including all aspects from the vision of the entrepreneur through the business plan, design, logistics, construction, management and local team training,” says Zafrani.

After meeting with Agrotop in Israel, Vietnamese company DTK selected the Israeli company to supply the insulated prefabricated housing system for the Clean Chicken Egg Production Factory in Phu Tho. Two Japanese companies provided the temperature, humidity and water-purification systems for the plant, which opened in March last year with a capacity for producing 500,000 eggs per day.
