Former UK Chief Rabbi: Labour Leader Corbyn is “Anti-Semite” Who Supports “Dealers of Hate”

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is an “anti-Semite” who has “given support to racists, terrorists and dealers of hate,” the former Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks said in an exclusive interview with the New Statesman on Tuesday.

According to Sacks, Corbyn’s recently reported 2013 remarks about British Zionists were “the most offensive statement made by a senior British politician” since Enoch Powell’s ‘Rivers of Blood’ speech in 1968, who alleged immigration to the UK would mean "the black man will have the whip hand over the white man.”

Sacks, who was chief rabbi in Britain from 1991 until 2013, added: “It was divisive, hateful and like Powell’s speech it undermines the existence of an entire group of British citizens by depicting them as essentially alien.”

The latest anti-Semitic row to engulf Corbyn centers on comments by the Labour leader that Zionists “don’t understand English irony” despite having “lived in [the UK] for a very long time.”

In his first remarks since Labour’s anti-Semitism crisis reached a crisis point this summer, Sacks said: “Now, within living memory of the Holocaust, and while Jews are being murdered elsewhere in Europe for being Jews, we have an antisemite as the leader of the Labour party and Her Majesty’s opposition. That is why Jews feel so threatened by Mr Corbyn and those who support him.”

The former chief rabbi said, “We can only judge Jeremy Corbyn by his words and his actions. He has given support to racists, terrorists and dealers of hate who want to kill Jews and remove Israel from the map.”

Sacks further observed that Jews had contributed to every aspect of British life for more than three and a half centuries. “We know our history better than Mr Corbyn, and we have learned that the hate that begins with Jews never ends with Jews. Mr Corbyn’s embrace of hate defiles our politics and demeans the country we love.”

Amb. Haley: To Restore Former Levels of U.S. Support, UNRWA Must Reform Itself

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) must undergo significant reform to secure past levels of funding from the United States, a senior American diplomat said on Tuesday, The Algemeiner reported.

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley said, “We were supposed to the last time give them $130 million, we cut it in half, saying they really needed to reform and fix they things they were doing, because they teach anti-Israeli and anti-American things in their textbooks.”

“So instead of the $130 million, we give them $65 million,” she continued. “They didn’t say thank you. UNRWA had them protest in the streets (…) “We will be a donor [to UNRWA] if it reforms what it does (…) If it goes and makes sure that they’re not doing these teachings in textbooks, if they actually change the number of refugees to an accurate count, we will look back and partner with them.”

Haley called on regional players to increase their financial support for UNRWA, especially countries with a vested interest in the Palestinian cause. “You are all so quick to wag your finger at us for not giving more. Where is Saudi Arabia? Where is the United Arab Emirates? Where is Kuwait?”

The senior diplomat also lashed out at the Palestinian leadership for “bashing” the Trump administration and refusing to take part in a U.S.-led regional peace initiative while at the same time expecting American handouts. The administration believes that by rejecting the U.S. peace plan out of hand, the Palestinian leadership demonstrates yet again that it lacks the will to take steps towards peace.

Third German Intelligence Agency Finds Anti-Israel Boycott Campaign to be Anti-Semitic

A third German intelligence agency has determined that the anti-Israel boycott campaign, known as Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS), is anti-Semitic, Benjamin Weinthal reported for The Jerusalem Post Tuesday. A section of the report compiled by the Berlin Office of Constitutional Protection, roughly the equivalent of the FBI, was titled “Special Topic: Antisemitism” singling out “campaigns, which targeted Israel with a boycott," last year.

One incident used to illustrate the agency's finding was the disruption of a pro-Israel event held at Humboldt University in Berlin that included Deborah Weinstein, a Holocaust survivor, and MK Aliza Lavie, of Israel's Yesh Atid party. Three pro-BDS activists stormed the event, called Life in Israel – Terror, Bias and the Chances for Peace.

Another example cited by the report was an effort to pressure an arts and music festival to refuse sponsorship of the Israeli Embassy in Germany. The organizers of the Pop-Kultur Festival said that they refused to be "intimidated" by the pressure tactics used by the BDS campaign and accepted the sponsorship.

In 2016, after extensive reporting on the growth of the BDS movement in Berlin, the city's mayor, Michael Müller, observed that a tactic adopted by the BDS campaign of “standing with antisemitic signs in front of Berlin shops” is the functional equivalent of “the intolerable methods used in the Nazi era.”

Intelligence agencies in German states of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate have previously identified the BDS campaign as anti-Semitic in recent months.

Israeli Startup Wins European Sports Technology Award

Track160, a Petah Tikva-based Israeli startup developing a fully automatic team sports analytics service using deep learning technology, won first place in the 2018 European SportsTech held during the SpielMacher conference in Hamburg on August 9.

The victory cup was awarded to Track160 cofounder Miky Tamir.

“Artificial intelligence and deep learning methods completely change sports technology,” said Tamir. “We can now produce new services and products for sports professionals and for the broadcast and gaming markets that have never been dreamed of just few years ago.”

Tamir established Track160 in 2017 with fellow sports technology and computer vision expert Micha Birnboim. Their fully automatic system tracks player and ball position and produces performance and tactical metrics, without GPS sensors, RF receivers or human operators.

The patented technology combines a single-viewpoint camera unit (two handycams or any professional video unit on the customer side) and miniature low-cost tags worn by the players. Later on, the system will become “pure optical,” the company says.

Based on the players’ IDs, locations and ball position, Track160 automatically prepares a comprehensive team/players game analytics database as well as injury and roles predictions.

The extracted 3D poses of the players are also used to generate photorealistic live animation of the players as well as a 3D representation of the match. This capability opens the door to an arsenal of new coaching, media and gaming apps.
