Conference Call: Avi Mayer

AVI MAYER directs new media strategy and implementation for the Jewish Agency for Israel, the largest Jewish non-profit organization in the world. He also maintains a robust personal social media presence and is frequently cited by journalists, activists, advocacy organizations, government officials and others.

In December 2011, following the appearance of an orchestrated wave of anti-Israel sentiment, Avi initiated the #IsraelLoves campaign, encouraging social media users to share positive messages about Israel utilizing the popular social media platform Twitter. Participants in the campaign ultimately included Israeli government ministers and officials, Jewish organizational leaders, members of Knesset, celebrities, IDF officers, Jewish students, Israeli diplomatic missions and countless others. In March 2012, at the height of an intense round of fighting between Israel and Hamas, he played a key role in exposing the use of decontextualized photos to smear Israel, drawing widespread attention to a common practice and prompting a United Nations investigation into the involvement of a U.N. official.

Avi and his work have been featured in The Washington Post, AP, Foreign Policy, BBC, Jerusalem Post, JTA, Times of Israel, Commentary, and Al Jazeera, amongst others.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, Avi has worked for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and served in the IDF Spokesperson's Unit. He resides in Israel.
