"Israel and Middle East Peace"
Nonie Darwish
Nonie Darwish is the daughter of a former high-ranking Egyptian military officer who was in charge of covert attacks on Israel. When Nonie Darwish was only eight years old, her father was killed in Gaza, where her family lived, by the Israel Defense Forces. Darwish’s father was considered a "shahid," a martyr for jihad. Yet at an early age, Darwish developed a skeptical eye about her own Muslim culture and upbringing. Why the love of violence and hatred of Jews and Christians? Why the tolerance of glaring social injustices? Why blame America and Israel for everything?
Today Darwish is an American citizen, a noted author, and an advocate for peace. She lectures around the country to civic organizations, universities, churches and synagogues at great risk to her comfort and safety to reveal the many truths about the culture of hate which is taking away chances for peace and prosperity. Darwish is the author of ”Now They Call Me Infidel: Why I Renounced Jihad for America, Israel, and the War on Terror” and has been interviewed on CNN, FOX News, BBC, MSNBC, Al Arabiya, The Guardian, The Jerusalem Post, and numerous Asian and European publications and newspapers. She recently spoke at the European Parliament in Brussels and the Oxford University Student Union.
